The residents of East Palo Alto have taken the future into their own hands-and changed its course in the process. In 2001, OEPA's partners and participants successfully advanced a large-scale revitalization campaign that includes multicultural festivals, clean and safe neighborhood parks, a community tool shed, youth programs, a new charter high school, more affordable housing, and greater access to computers and technology. In 2002, residents and community partners will continue their work on many other projects that will renew this Peninsula community.

Palo Alto Weekly - 'One East Palo Alto' launches rebuilding effort
February 28, 2002 : "
One East Palo Alto is a new nonprofit that is making waves by debunking the traditional method of urban rejuvenation. Its founding executive director comes to East Palo Alto with more than 17 years of experience in the international relief and development sector. With several different organizations working together to create its inception, One East Palo Alto is a branch of the Peninsula Community Foundation and is funded by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, who have already funded similar programs in West Oakland and the Mayfair district of San Jose. The Hewlett Foundation has donated a total of $4.5 million over a period of six years. The goal of the initiative is to put into place programs that match the residents' needs and eventually the management will be run by people from the community."
