Programs & Services

Men of Purpose (MOP) provides Spiritual Counseling, Volunteer Fellowship Ministry, Family Re-Unification and Re-Entry Structure. Men of Purpose programs includes Job Preparation, Personal Enhancement, Mentoring, Family Support Services, and Crisis Services. Men of Purpose also provides Referral Services for Tutoring, Technical and Job Training, and assistance for health issues, housing, food, clothing and emergency assistance.

Tutoring Program

For inmates without an adequate educational background, Men of Purpose provides referrals to tutorial institutions for improving writing, reading and basic math skills. These programs will also aide them in acquiring their General Education Diploma (GED).

Mentoring

Provide coaching in the areas of family unification workshops, team work and leadership skills.

Technical and Job Training

Men of Purpose works with several organizations in the East of Bayshore community, such as OICW, for job and career training; Plugged-In, connecting individuals with technology; Start-Up a micro-business initiative; and One East Palo Alto, unifying one community and its diversity which advocates social change. These organizations and services provide career and technical training for newly released inmates.

Family Support Services

Men of Purpose provides support and resources to 120+ inmates and their families within the city of East Palo Alto. Many of the families assisted are families and children in crisis situations. We implement several programs that are consistent with our mission of helping current and formerly incarcerated men of all races and cultures. The services MOP provides to families include resources for job hunting, medical, food, clothing, emergency assistance (bills, housing, etc.) and family unification workshops.

Crisis Services

A direct line to Men of Purpose office during the hours of 9am-2pm, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) advocating on the behalf of inmates and families on the concerns of: legal assistance, bail bondmen, personal attorney, correspondence to judges for adjusting sentences, appeals and any other crisis needing immediate attention.
