It is the belief of Men of Purpose that nearly all persons leaving prison should seek out a program to assist them with their transition back into society and their communities. The high recidivism rate of prisoners speaks loudly that managing such a transition is extremely difficult, even if an individual has an established parole plan. We find that most individuals avoiding re-entry programs are those still affected by prison mentality. When entering prison one learns not to trust, not to ask favors and not to talk. It is impossible to maintain these inhibitions if a successful transition is expected. This is where the Men of Purpose program enters by helping individuals restructure their lives towards new responsibilities.
