William Woo: journalist, professor and friend of EPA.net
EPA.net would like to acknowledge the passing of William Woo, Interim Director of the Stanford Graduate Journalism Program, on April 12, 2006.Prof. Woo was a big supporter of EPA.net. Through his support graduate and undergraduate journalism students were able to work as "journalism mentors" with EPA.net community writers which worked very well as a form of one-to-one journalism training.
Prof. Woo also invited some of EPA.net's community writers over to speak to his Public Journalism class at Stanford. He was also a great resource to turn to when we had journalism questions that we didn't know how to answer. In one example we once had a question about whether or not something submitted to EPA.net could be considered as libel. Several different reporters and editors gave us conflicting answers but when we turned to Prof. Woo he gave us a definitive answer citing the court case that served as the precedent.
One of our journalism mentors described Prof. Woo as "the best professor she ever had." EPA.net appreciated the time we had with Prof. Woo and we express our sadness at his passing and our condolences to his family.
