Name: Supermarket Prayer Vigil -----(note: still a work-in-progress)

Description: Sunday March 13, 2005, in front of East Palo Alto City Hall

Story: The twenty-acre lot at University Avenue and Bay Road has been empty over fifteen years. Formerly the lot was the site of the Nairobi Shopping Center. In this city without a supermarket, this property remains the most likely site for a new one. ///// On Sunday, March 13th, community and faith-based organizations held a prayer vigil in front of City Hall, across the street from the vacant lot, to help speed a new supermarket into existence. ///// The prayer vigil was sponsored by the Community Ministerial Alliance of East Palo Alto together with the East Palo Alto Accountable Development Coalition: Peninsula Interfaith Action (PIA), at Faith Missionary Baptist Church and St. Francisc of Assisi Church, and Youth United for Community Action (YUCA). The next meeting of the EPA Accountable Development Alliance will be Tuesday, March 22nd, 5:30 PM at YUCA, 1848 Bay Road. Call Alvin Spencer at 650-575-8958 for more information. [Note: photo-essay is a still-to-be-completed work in progress]
