I have had the privilege of working on many films and videos in East Palo Alto. My film on East Palo Alto’s Ecumenical Hunger Program, No Hunger in My Home, won a student Academy Award in 1989; I worked with EPA.net director Michael Levin to write and edit a film on East Palo Alto’s history, Dreams of a City: Creating East Palo Alto. I especially like working with young people, helping them to acquire media production skills and knowledge. In my spare time, I like to hike and kayak, and write poetry. I volunteer with the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory, banding migrating hawks and falcons. I’m also a fitness instructor at the Sequoia branch of the YMCA in Redwood City. |

I have been enjoying learning about the many ways people in East Palo Alto and Belle Haven exercise and inspire each other to do their best. I think media can play an important role in helping people understand and reach out to each other. I like making and watching documentaries because they are about real people meeting the challenges we all face in life. In addition to working on Get Fit EPA, I am producing two documentaries: about the Berkeley Community Chorus and about the death of my closest friend from breast cancer. I love to read, and I belong to three book discussion groups! I am a devoted bodybuilder; at age 52, I won a trophy in my first bodybuilding competition (in the category "short").
