Jeremias Askew
I graduated from Carlmont High School in June 2007. I took a video production class my senior year where I produced three videos, one about the Hyphy Movement, that are hosted on google.com. For Get Fit, I want to use my video expertise to create decent videos that can change East Palo Alto fitness-wise. In my spare time, I like to play basketball. This fall of 2007, I will start working on my carpentry certificate – and keep making videos and taking video classes. |

I am in the 10th grade at Eastside College Preparatory. When I am not in school, I like to hang out with my friends. We go to the movies, Malibu Grand prix or hang out at my house. I love to shop or just look at clothes. I want to be a clothing designer or architect when I graduate from high school. The reason I really wanted to be a Get Fit Reporter is because my family is involved in the community. People always hear the negatives about East Palo Alto. I wanted to work on something that would bring out the positives of our city. Working with Get Fit, I have learned a lot about filming and editing, and that a lot of people want to be a part of the Get Fit project and tell us their fitness stories. |

Elizabeth Savusa
I am named for my loving grandmother, Elisapeta M. Savusa, and am the oldest of a dozen children all together. My background is from the islands of American Samoa and a culture of grace, honor, and respect. I am a person of love, friendship, and encouragement. I love learning all the new things that life gives. I plan to finish up my GED, go to college, and get my degree in art. I will give this encouragement to young people today: “Your life is worth it. Live it to the best of your abilities. Have faith in yourself and don’t stop believing in who you really are.” |

I was born in Mexico on December 7, 1989 and I am a senior at Carlmont High School. When I graduate, I want to go to college and become a social worker. I have been a volunteer tutor at Cesar Chavez School, where I got the chance to see how kids of all cultures have the same thoughts and spirits. I volunteered at the VA Hospital, where I met Veterans and learned how different the world was when they were fighting and how their lives changed. I worked with Nuestra Casa, doing a community survey of Latino parents, to learn about their children and their schools. Working with Get Fit is teaching me a lot of things about East Palo Alto that I did not know. East Palo Alto is changing – and youth are helping to make it better. |

I am a senior at Eastside College Preparatory here in East Palo Alto. My dad is Filipino and my mom is Salvadoran. I joined the Get Fit Collaborative with experience in black and white photography and web design, and made a video for my multimedia class. With my classmates, I designed a website on e-waste, HighTech Toxic. In my spare time, I like to hang out with family and friends, and ride my bike. I also work at a local movie theater. I’d like to have a career in some form of engineering such as electrical. |
