2003 Anniversary Review for the Hewlett-Packard East Palo Alto Digital Village Collaboration
Citywide event on Tuesday, April 29

April 17, 2000 was a little bit different
in East Palo Alto. That’s when Hewlett-Packard CEO
Carly Fiorina, former president Bill Clinton, and
the Rev. Jesse Jackson came to town.
The topic was closing the divide between technology
haves and have-nots in Silicon Valley.
On that date, Ms. Fiorina announced a grant from
Hewlett-Packard of $5 million in equipment, training
and resources over the course of three years to create
the Hewlett-Packard East Palo Alto Digital Village (EPADV).
The goal of the Digital Village was to expand social, educational
and economic opportunities to the East of Bayshore community
through increased access to computers, training, the Internet and
other enabling technologies. Nonprofits and civic institutions
would collaborate with HP on different EPADV “Signature Projects.”

such as hiking, bird watching and photography. Residents
should be proud of their baylands and find peaceful enjoyment
here, but many are deterred from approaching the baylands
by illegally dumped trash.

Health Clinic Changes Name
South County Community Health
Center, Inc. based in East Palo Alto,
has a new name. Since many people assumed
that it must be one of the County’s public
health clinics, the Board decided to eliminate
confusion by changing the name.
As of April 1 Ravenswood Family Health Center
is the name. The location, telephone, email addresses,
and fax numbers stay the same.
However South County Community Health Center,
Inc. is still the legal name until the
amendment to the Articles of
Incorporation is complete.
