Launching the New Chamber Of Commerce

The brand new East Palo Alto-Belle Haven
Chamber of Commerce (EPABHCC) held its very successful
inaugural mixer on February 27, 2003.
East Palo Alto's
California Bank and Trust was filled with well-wishers
who were treated to the mellow sounds of the jazz combo
Potential, and substantial hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
It was fitting and proper for this memorable event to take
place at the California Bank and Trust. The bank was celebrating
its first anniversary in the City of East Palo Alto,
symbolizing the new opportunities in the City.

The City and OICW work with IKEA and other employers to promote jobs for residents
If you drive by the IKEA office over
the next few days, you might wonder
about the large white tent in front of
their office.
From Wednesday March 12 to Saturday
March 15 the tent will house a
Management Hiring Event.
Over the four days, IKEA will take applications
and interview candidates to fill management positions
for the new store.
This job fair is open weekdays 10am-7pm and
Saturday 10am-5pm. Previous management
experience is required.

Rose Jacobs Gibson
Monday January 6, 2003
at 6pm, Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson stood at the
podium of the Canada College auditorium and noted a
significant moment in the history of San Mateo County.
"Seven years ago my predecessor, Ruben Barrales, became the first Latino
to serve as President of the Board of Supervisors," she said.
"Tonight, I am honored to become the first African American to hold this post".

Community Update
On January 28, 2003, members
of the East Palo Alto community met
in the City/County building to elect members
to the One East Palo Alto (OEPA) Board of Directors.
Among those elected are five incumbents: Luis Avelar,
Refugio Huizar, Arthur Lim, Barbara Noparstak, and Richard Tatum.
New members elected to the Board are Salvador Chavez,
Bernardo Huerta, and Alisha Parker.
