When I lost my mother at age 10, I couldn't help but wonder about all the things I might have
said to her but never had the chance to say, such as how much I loved her.
The single comfort I have had for this persistent feeling was that I was only 10-years-old at the time
and how could I have known she would be leaving so soon?
I saw that I was not alone in that feeling after meeting with Patrisha Scott,
long-time East Palo Alto resident and director of Reclaiming Fatherhood,
a program of the San Mateo County Health Services Agency for men who are parents.

EPA resident takes a journey through local government
By Rosemary Burgess
On June 30, 2004, I completed my one-year term as a juror for the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury.
In retrospect it has been a year of many hours spent in meetings, interviews and research,
with additional hours preparing reports. Although being a juror required a high level of time
and energy, it was highly informative and very rewarding.
The Civil Grand Jury is comprised of 19 members selected by ballot from a pool of applicants.
The purpose of the Grand Jury is to monitor and examine the performance of local government.

There will also be a puppet show, a magician, and a dance troupe performing. Community organizations will have booths with special activities and rewards. "It's a day to honor kids," says Jennifer Jackson, the event organizer.
Children's Day is one of the most positive things that came out of the dark days of drug dealing and violence over a decade ago.

Community Government Institute, educating youth for municipal leadership
Training culminates in youth-run model City Council this Sunday at 5 p.m. in City Hall
By Muisi-kongo Malonga & Ayodele Ankoanda Kinchen
It was once said by Warren Bennis that "new leaders have to be able to change that [which] is dreamless, soulless and visionless." Over the span of four days
more than 50 young leaders did just that in the summer of 2003 -- breathing life into a city of their own making, and becoming the architects of their very own
reality.
