|
Where are they now?
By Jane Theresa Edwards
On June 15, 1975, approximately 125 students, excited to pursue their dreams, marched into the Ravenswood High School courtyard to the traditional melody of "Pomp & Circumstance" wide-eyed and eager to face the world. The traditional graduation ceremonies ended with the class theme song, "We've Only Just Begun." Parents and students celebrated
together the milestone accomplishment of graduating from high school.

Come and try some at the 7th annual Collard Greens Cultural Festival next Saturday, June 30th in Bell Street Park
By Keisha Azibo Evans
Homemade ice cream has been a family joy for generations for those of us from South Carolina
and other parts of the South. I've continued this tradition by making my own ice cream here in East Palo Alto.
This ultimately led to the creation of Collard Greens Ice Cream.

East Palo Alto has a significant community of residents who immigrated from
Michoacan, Mexico together with their food and culture. One of the best ways to
experience a slice of this culture is to eat at El Galope, a restaurant serving
Michoacan-style Mexican food for over fifteen years in East Palo Alto. Owned and operated by
Guillermina González, El Galope is a taqueria/restaurant and a whole lot more.

By the Juneteenth Committee
El Significado de Juneteenth
The Juneteenth Festival was really a good one this year and we need more support for this kind
of event because it brings the community together. It allows people both to reflect on the issues
effecting the community and to show a positive image. It's an important event that should be continued every year.
The Committee worked hard this year. In some ways Juneteenth helped pull the community together in a period
where we had been having a flare up of violence. People came out to enjoy the music, listen to what the speakers had to say and greet old friends.
