| Help Make a Difference as a Foster Parent

Attend an April 12th informational meeting in East Palo Alto

Foster Care and Adoption Program,
San Mateo County Human Services Agency
Ella Beecher and her husband James have been foster parents in East Palo Alto for eleven years.
They have had over 50 children in their home during that time.
Reflecting on this experience, Ms. Beecher says that, "Being a foster parent is very
rewarding and brings a lot of joy into your heart. You are helping fulfill a child's life
and it helps fulfill your own life at the same time. The only thing you need to have is lots of love and patience."

San Mateo County READS: new name, same mission

San Mateo County READS
Compartiendo el Regalo de Leer
The adult literacy program once known as Project Read
has changed its name to San Mateo County READS and expanded
its services to residents throughout San Mateo County, focusing
especially on the unincorporated areas.
Even though the name has changed, local residents have no need to worry.
San Mateo County READS will continue to offer the same great learning and volunteer opportunities.

Task force initiated by Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson
presents recommendations to community at
January 31st meeting, 4:30 p.m. in City Hall
San Mateo County Supervisor Rose Jacobs Gibson is no stranger to crime and violence.
From 1992 to 1999 she was on the East Palo Alto City Council and played a major role in the regional effort to quell
crack-related violence in the early 90s.
Rose Jacobs Gibson was Mayor for two of those years and became a San Mateo County
Supervisor in 1999, serving as President in 2003, and was elected to a second four-year term in March 2004.
When crime and violence began to rise again in East Palo Alto in the spring of 2004, Supervisor Jacobs Gibson did not waste any time.
