Housing Services, also referred to as the Housing Services Department (HSD), is a division within the City of East Palo Alto’s Community Development Department. Housing Services was established in 1999 to provide a means for the City to oversee and implement its Below Market Rate (BMR) housing program, as well as to provide staff support to the City's Rent Stabilization Board and, administer the Rent Stabilization Program.

The mission of the HSD is to advance and support sound housing policies and programs that result in the creation of safe affordable housing options that serve the full range of housing needs in the community.

Dear East Palo Alto Resident,

There has been an ongoing problem in our community with the small "pocket bikes," mini bikes, motor scooters, and go-carts. We want to take this opportunity to inform you of the California laws regarding these vehicles, and clear up misunderstandings surrounding them.

It appears that most of the manufacturers and vendors of these vehicles are very happy to sell them, but they are not informing the buyers of some very important facts.

Did you know that one of the biggest wetland restoration projects in the country is taking place right now and it's happening in our own backyard?

When complete, the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project will convert 15,100 acres of commercial salt ponds along the southern shores of San Francisco Bay to a mosaic of natural habitats for birds, fish and other wildlife.

When I first arrived in East Palo Alto I was met with sighs of sympathy and looks of concern from East Bay friends for having moved into this "poor and dangerous" neighborhood. I set out to prove them wrong. It didn't take long. My journey began and ended on my own doorstep as I was greeted by friendly neighbors and made to feel right at home in their homes and community.
