Helping EPA Families Move on Up!
Families In Motion

By Stewart Hyland,
Program Director,
One East Palo Alto

One East Palo Alto's (OEPA) first ever fundraiser and public awareness event, "Families In Motion (FIM) - A Community Reception," took place Saturday, November 13th, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., and was a rousing success. FIM was held in the beautiful, new, state-of-the-art Multi-purpose Room at Costaño Elementary School, which was transformed into a colorful, convention center-like décor by East Palo Alto (EPA) entrepreneur Rabiah Zarah, owner of Room Transformations by Rabiah. OEPA took full advantage of the venue and the organization's resources to present an exciting program that brought EPA's own heroes and sheroes to the fore, and, at the same time, showcased the diversity and leadership of the organization's EPA resident majority Board of Directors, staff expertise, and dedicated support of general members and volunteers.

forum in East Palo Alto

By Court Skinner

On Saturday, November 13th, All of Us or None held a Peace and Justice Community Summit from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Faith Missionary Baptist Church. Jobs, homes, emergency services, voting, welfare and food stamps have often been denied to people who have served their time -- sometimes for decades.

We've now reached a critical mass with all three efforts and set the stage for the next step in our programs.

Passing on wisdom at the Intergenerational Reading Roundtable

By Laura Savage

In West Africa it's said that, "When an elder passes, it is as if an entire library has gone up in flames." So it's not surprising that in most traditional and minority cultures the practice of elders telling stories of what happened when they were young is a common ritual. The topics range from what was happening in the community then to experiences they had as a child that changed their view on life.
