New City Manager Alvin James Discusses the Vision of the City

A report from the November 14th talk at Palo Mobile Estates sponsored by the EPACT Education Fund
On November 14, 2003, Alvin James, East Palo Alto's new permanent City Manager, met with the community at the Palo Mobile Estates mobile home park to discuss the vision for the City of East Palo Alto. The event was sponsored by the East Palo Alto Council of Tenants (EPACT) Education Fund. Thanks to Mr. William Webster for setting up the event and moderating the discussion.
Mr. James was happy to be there, because he learns how a community works by getting in touch with the people through community meetings.

EPA City Council Holds Cooley Landing Study Session

On November 12th 2003, the East Palo Alto City Council held a study session to receive an information report from the city staff, and to solicit community input on how Cooley Landing should be used if the city acquires it.
This was my first time seeing the City Council in action after its "reorganization". Donna Rutherford is now the Mayor, and David Woods is the Vice Mayor.

Newsweek reported in a November issue that scientists are assessing the effect of faith on health. Harvard Medical School held a conference in November on spirituality and health and the National Institutes of Health commissioned a series of papers on the subject.
While scientists research the issue, people in the community continue to seek care from both the church and the clinic.
